About AirshipHangar.com

The purpose of AirshipHangar.com is to promote the growth and development of the airship industry as well as greater public understanding and interest in airships. This website will provide a starting point for finding online airship and blimp information and also act as an online gathering place for all who share an interest in dirigibles to meet and communicate.

To best achieve the goals mentioned above this website makes use of several web 2.0 community and multimedia features. Most of the features are free to use, however, you may notice a few products, ads, or other paid features. Although this is kind of a hobby site the server resources, software and development work don't come cheap so every attempt has been made to help offset costs in a way that is still inclusive and non-invasive. If you like what you see so far feel free to donate or become a sponsor.

What you see currently is only the beginning. With feedback and support from visitors like you this website will continue to grow and improve. In the long term our goal is to become a central hub that promotes and captures online traffic interested in airships and helps direct it to the many other websites, organizations, associations and new ventures that comprise the airship community.

AirshipHangar.com is the creation of Kirk McGinnis and his internet company Digital Airships, LLC. Kirk is an aspiring web developer, entrepreneur and recent MBA graduate.

About Kirk

The idea for AirshipHangar.com has been years in the making. I've slowly pieced it together in my spare time as a hobby and now it's finally ready to be shared! Thank you for visiting and I hope that you like it.

My interest in dirigibles began oddly enough while watching Wayne's World at the age of 12. I had no idea who Led Zeppelin was at that age, but noticed that the character Garth was wearing one of their t-shirts with the Hindenburg on the front of it. What began as my efforts to learn more about the Hindenburg turned into a full blown obsession with zeppelins. It boggled my mind that humanity once had real life flying ships seemingly pulled right out of a fantasy that once captured the imagination of the world and yet today with all of our technology we no longer have these amazing vehicles and most people know so little about them.

When I was about 13 I discovered that the Zeppelin Company was still in operation and that it was developing its new Zeppelin NT.  As an overeager 13 year old I wrote a letter trying to explain to the Zeppelin Company that they needed to build big zeppelins again and even included a hand drawn picture of what I thought it should look like. It looked like something my mom might hang on the refrigerator, but not something any company would take seriously. To my glee, however, I got a very kind response back from Count von Zeppelin's descendant, Wolfgang von Zeppelin, who included many interesting details about the Zeppelin NT project and was gracious enough to humor me and say they would consider my proposal. This of course made my day and only further fueled my interest in airships.

Today I am a recent graduate out on my own trying my hand at being an entrepreneur. My studies were in business, but my tinkering has been in building websites. I was able to pay my way through school with a little web design business built up on the side and now I've decided to go full time. My interest in airships and web development make this website a natural fit for continuing to grow and develop my skills and capabilities. I founded Digital Airships, LLC to provide website management services as well as to create and develop internet properties. AirshipHangar.com represents the first major internet property for Digital Airships, LLC to develop.

In my free time I like to travel and be outdoors. It is always fun meeting new people and experiencing different cultures from around the world. I enjoy camping, hiking, rafting, skiing, climbing and various other outdoor activities. I like RC aircraft and have played with a variety of RC blimps, but I'm ashamed to say that I have yet to ride in an actual airship. Hopefully someday soon I can remedy that situation.

Thank you again for taking the time to learn more about this website and who's behind it and I hope that you find it as enjoyable as I do.
